A handover you can actually use

What you should own and have on the day your project ends.

A quay at night, harbour lights reflected on still water

When a project ends, you should be able to hire any developer to carry it on. That only works if the handover is complete.

You should have

  • The code, in your own account, not the supplier’s.
  • The domain, registered in your name, with a login that works.
  • Simple instructions for running and updating the site.
  • A way to edit the text yourself, without a developer.
  • Proof it works: someone other than the original developer has followed the instructions.

Ask for the handover checklist before you sign, not at the end.
